Tyler, the Creator, Kendrick Lamar & More Were 2022’s Top Vinyl Sellers

Albums by Kendrick Lamar, Tyler, the Creator, Michael Jackson, and more were some of the top selling vinyl of 2022.
The vinyl business is still booming. According to a new report from Billboard, vinyl sales outsold CDs in the U.S. last year, the record format growing for the 17th consecutive year in the country. Those included in the top-vinyl sellers of 2022 included Kendrick Lamar‘s good kid, m.A.A.d city (254,000), Tyler, the Creator’s Call Me If You Get Lost (211,000) and IGOR (172,000) along with the late Michael Jackson, whose 1982 magnum opus Thriller sold 168,000 copies.
Lamar and Jackson’s re-releases both marked the anniversaries of their respective albums, with good kid, m.A.A.d city celebrating its 10th anniversary and Thriller commemorating its 40th anniversary.
Pop singer-songwriter Taylor Swift had the top selling vinyl of 2022, with her latest album Midnights (945,000). Per Variety, record sales skyrocketed to 22 percent during the first-half of 2022. At the time total U.S. recorded music revenues climbed nine percent to $7.7 billion at estimated retail value. Streaming revenues from paid subscriptions, ad-supported services, and additional formats also grew ten percent to $6.5 billion during this period. The total of paid subscriptions grew to a record high of 90 million. Streaming still accounts for the majority of music revenue, representing 84 percent of total revenue, compared to physical at ten percent. t
