Dr. Dre Denounces Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene for Using “Still D.R.E.” In Promo Video

Dr. Dre slammed Georgia Rep. Marjorie Greene for using his 1999 single “Still D.R.E.” in a promotional video supporting Rep. Kevin McCarthy.
Dr. Dre has spoken out against Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene for the unauthorized use of his 1999 single “Still D.R.E.” in a new promotional video. On Monday (January 9), the Georgia politician released a video of herself walking through Congress and boasting that she helped fellow Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy get elected as House speaker. “Still D.R.E.,” from Dre’s 1999 album 2001 plays throughout the video and at one point, Greene takes a call from former United States President Donald Trump, referenced as ‘DT.’
Dre went to TMZ and denied that he had any part in the song’s promotional usage for Greene.
“I don’t license my music to politicians, especially someone as divisive and hateful as this one,” he said.

Trump is no stranger in receiving condemnation in using select songs for self-promotion. In November, the twice-impeached former president used Sam & Dave’s 1966 song “Hold On, I’m Coming” for his 2024 presidential candidacy announcement. The estate of late singer-songwriter Issac Hayes (who co-wrote the song with David Porter) took offense and threatened legal action.
“We are exploring multiple legal options to stop this unauthorized use,” Hayes’ estate warned in a tweet. “Stopping a politician from using your music is not always an easy task, but we are dedicated to making sure that Donald Trump does not continue to use ‘Hold on I’m Coming’ by written by Isaac Hayes an David Porter in further rallies and public appearances,” they added in a subsequent tweet.
