The Future of ‘Wonder Woman’ & ‘Black Adam’ In Question At DC Studios

DC Studios has cancelled Wonder Woman 3, while Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson action film Black Adam has stalled at the box office.
The fate of Wonder Woman and Black Adam at Warner Bros’. DC Studios is in jeopardy. On Wednesday (December 7), it was announced that Wonder Woman 3 has been cancelled, one day after actress Gal Gadot also tweeted about the superhero receiving a “next chapter.” WW director Patty Jenkins had recently submitted her treatment co-written with Geoff Johns, but per The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. Pictures co-chairs and co-CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy to Jenkins that WW3 does not fit in their current plans.
Jenkins directed and co-wrote 2017’s inaugural Wonder Woman and 2020’s Wonder Woman 1984, the latter which released both theatrically and HBO Max.

Nearly two months after DC film Black Adam released, actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has pursued box office damage control, as rumors have circulated that the film is poised to lose $50 million to $100 million. On Wednesday, he tweeted about the rumors, confirming a global gross of $390 million and linking an article from Deadline about the film making profit. A potential Black Adam sequel is also in question.
“I have read the claims that Black Adam will lose money. That is false,” said producer and financier Joe Singer. “The picture may be considered disappointing since it had Dwayne Johnson in a DC film. However, the picture will pass break-even and throw off a bit of profit.”

Black Adam, which made a No. 1 debut with a first-weekend global box office gross of $140 million, was surpassed by Black Panther 2, which passed $400 million globally in its first week.

With their pivot to Warner Bros. Discovery, DC Studios’ heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are planning their multi-year film deals, with Flash set to release on June 16 and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom due next December.
