Childish Gambino and Kirby teamed up on an EP that provides a closer look at Swarm.
Amazon Prime Video’s new show Swarm is officially here.
Today, alongside the release of the series by Donald Glover and Janine Nabers, an EP dropped. The musical drop features original music that is heard in the series by Ni’Jah and Kirby, Childish Gambino is also featured on the release.
Ni’Jah is the center of the Swarm universe, she’s a fictional artist and the main character of the series Dre played by Domonique Fishback is obsessed with her. There have been whispers that Ni’Jah is a Beyoncé-like figure. Regardless, this obsession drives the arc of the series. From the previously released trailer, it’s evident that Dre is up to some sinister things.
Gambino has one credited feature on the track “Sticky,” but he also has writing and production credits on this song and “Something Like That.” On the topic of writing from the perspective of Ni’Jah, per Rated R&B Kirby shared: “I fell in love with the idea of becoming the Ni’jah character.” She added, “What would she say in this scene? What would she sound like? It was liberating to go in and write & sing without any rules. There are people who are called ‘genius’ and people who truly are. After working with Donald, Michael, Fam & Riley I truly know the difference.”
Childish Gambino on Kirby:
“Kirby has such a versatile sound and songwriting ability, she was able to elevate and amplify every moment she was a part of. It’s been a pleasure to collaborate together, to bring this story to life sonically and I couldn’t imagine what this would sound like without her involvement.”
Swarm stars Dominique Fishback, Damson Idris, Chloe Bailey, and more. Billie Eilish also appears in the series.
