While attending the 2023 Golden Globe Awards, Donald Glover confirmed that he’s back in the studio, making new music as ‘Childish Gambino.’
The saga of Childish Gambino continues, according to Donald Glover. On Tuesday (January 10), the multi-hyphenate artist attended the 2023 Golden Globe Awards, where he spoke with E! News backstage about the possibility of releasing new music.
“I’m making music right now. I love it,” said Glover. “I’m actually in the studio. I’ve been bringing people in, like secret people, working on little things. I’ve been just making it for fun right now. But soon something will happen. I promise.”
Glover also put rumors of retiring from hip-hop to rest. “No, that was out in the ethos… You don’t have to worry about that. He’ll be back. He’s here right now,” he said.
In 2017, after releasing third studio album Awaken, My Love!, Glover told Huffpost that he was stepping away from music because he didn’t think it was “necessary.”
“There’s nothing worst than like a third sequel, like a third movie and we’re like, ‘Again?’” he said at the time. “You know, I like it when something’s good and when it comes back there’s a reason to come back, there’s a reason to do that.”
Glover last released fourth studio album 3. 15. 20 in March 2020, the LP featuring Ariana Grande “Time,” and 21 Savage, Ink and Kadjha Bonet (“12.38”). The former Atlanta actor was also featured on Latto’s 2022 single “Sunshine” with Lil Wayne, followed by bLAck pARty’s “I Love You More Than You Know” in the same year.
