Legendary rapper and producer Erick Sermon revealed on Instagram that he sought help to overcome an opioid addiction.
Erick Sermon is opening up about his rehabilitation from a former opioid addiction. On Saturday (January), the EPMD member made an Instagram post about his personal struggle with opioid dependency. “2023, WOW. So blessed to have lived this long. Life isn’t guaranteed, so don’t take it for granted,” he wrote.
“I’m fresh out of rehab. [Seven] months clean from opioids,” he continued. “During this time, my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer [in her] liver, kidney and chest. [It] changed my entire life around. My family is being attacked from every angle, but the devil’s a liar.”
“[I] believe that my GOD has us. [T]ime to move forward in a loving manner. Without love, it doesn’t work. Believe me, through all of this, I love life. I just wanna find a different way to function in it. Blessings, [people],” he added before asking fans to pray for his late grandmother, Vernia Mims. The rapper also teased that his forthcoming project Dynamic Duos is in the works and told fans they have “never heard anything like this before.” Dynamic Duos will be Sermon’s first full-length project since 2019.
The post was met with support from Sermon’s hip-hop peers including 300 Entertainment co-founder Kevin Liles, Rockwilder, DJ Scratch and DJ Battlecat. Sermon last referenced Dynamic Duos early last year in an Instagram post with Dr. Dre, Saweetie, Joelle James and Larrance Dopson, expressing gratitude for working with Dre for the first time.
