Artists who made the Barack Obama ‘Favorite Music of 2022’ list include Kendrick Lamar, Burna Boy, Koffee, Beyoncé and the late MF DOOM.

In time for the holidays, Barack Obama shared his yearly roundup of his entertainment favorites, including his top songs. Making Obama’s curated Spotify playlist included Ari Lennox (“POF”), Burna Boy (“Last Last”), Koffee (“Pull Up”), Beyoncé (“Break My Soul”), Kendrick Lamar (“The Heart Part 5”), SZA (“Shirt”), Lizzo (“About Damn Time”) and more.

“I always enjoy sharing my end of year music playlist with all of you — and this year we heard a lot of great songs. Here are some of my favorites,” Obama captioned the post.

The former United States President added, “Are there any songs or artists I should check out?”

One questionable choice stood out from the rest of Obama’s music selections – Black Thought & Danger Mouse’s “Belize” featuring the late MF DOOM. Although some celebrated “Belize” making the list, others pointed out that DOOM was denied re-entry into the United States during the Obama Administration in 2010, when the United Kingdom-born rapper was unable to return to the states after a European tour.

2022 wouldn’t be the first time that a President-elect name-dropped DOOM – the late rapper’s 2004 single “Coffin Nails” was featured on President Joe Biden’s and Vice-President Kamala Harris’ inauguration playlist, sparking backlash from fans of Metal Fingers. The playlist – curated by Issa Rae’s Raedio imprint alongside the Presidential Inaugural Committee – was featured alongside tracks from Mac Miller, Kaytranada, A Tribe Called Quest, Toro y Moi, Kota the Friend and others.
