Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse swings into action in 2023. On Tuesday, Sony Pictures Entertainment unveiled a first trailer for the long-awaited film, with follow’s 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Protagonist Miles Morales (played by Shameik Moore) reunites with superhero pal Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman (Hailee Steinfeld) intercut with a rooftop chat with his mother in the trailer.

“Wherever you go from here you have to promise to take care of that little boy for me,” Rio Morales (Luna Lauren Vélez), Miles’ mother, tells him in the trailer. “Make sure he never forgets where he came from. And he never doubts that he’s loved. And he never lets anyone tell him that he doesn’t belong there.”

Also teased in the trailer are a new dimension of Spider-People, who fight to protect their existence from interdimensional portal enemy, The Spot. Across the Spider-Verse is sure to have animations equally captivating to its 2018 predecessor, as the film’s co-writer and producer Christopher Miller recently spoke to Empire about its two dimensions.

The two that you saw in the teaser trailer were what’s called Earth-50101, which we’re calling ‘Mumbattan’ – that’s based on an Indian comic-book look – and Nueva York from Spider-Man 2099’s world,” Miller explained. “That’s based on Syd Mead-style illustrations of what the future might look like. There’s also Gwen’s world, which is Earth-65. And that was a watercolour-wash style that’s reminiscent of the covers of her comic books.”

Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, also appearing the film are Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker, Brian Tyree Henry as Jefferson Davis, Issa Rae as Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman, Oscar Isaac as Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099 and Daniel Kaluuya as Hobart “Hobie” Brown/Spider-Punk.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is set to release the first of its two-part sequel on June 2, 2023. Watch the trailer below.
